    Ajmer

Ajmer in Rajasthan can be called its holy town, as it is home to two most visited and most celebrated pilgrimages. It also has a history of invasions and wars. The famous Mahumud Of Ghajini from Afghanistan once sacked the town, and it was later taken over by Mughals.

The most important places in Ajmer include:

  • Targarh: also known as Star fort. It is situated on some height and it takes around one and half hour of trekking to reach the fort, but it is all worth the effort as one gets a spectacular view of the city from the fort.
  • Pushkar lake: This is one of the most beautiful places in Ajmer, as it is surrounded by the hills from the three sides. It is believed to originate where a lotus dropped from Lord Brahma’s hand, when he was finding a peaceful place to perform Yagya.
  • Brahma Temple: As this is the place where Lord Brahma is believed to have searched for peace, a Temple was made that was dedicated to him. It is the biggest Temple of Lord Brahma in the whole world, and is one of the two famous holy places in Ajmer.
  • Dargah Sharif: Is also known as Ajmer Sharif. This holy place of Muslims is situated in the foothills of the old areas of the town. Every year they celebrate they festival of Urs, in the memory of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. The celebrations are conducted throughout the town and thousands of pilgrims from all over the world gather to attend the festivity.
  • These all places make Ajmer, one of the most visited places in Rajasthan. Which is also known as the center where the British made their first contacts with the Mughals in 1616. So tour to Ajmer can be a very intriguing as well as a fulfilling trip.
