Amber fort is a spectacular masterpiece of Indo-Persian style of architecture that stands pompously 11km, from Jaipur. The white and red sandstone structured citadel has some beautiful ornamentation in the interiors. The best example of distinguished mirror art work can be see in the Seesh Mahal (palace of the mirrors) inside the fortress. The interior of Amber fort is a mosaic of intricate mural and fine carvings worth appreciating.
The Meenas originally established the site of Amber as a holy town dedicated to the Goddess 'Gatta Rani'. It was only in the reign of Akbar in 1592 that he assigned the task to his commander in chief Raja Man Singh to build a Palace Complex on the ruins left behind. The Amber site was continuously modified in precedings years until Sawai Jai Singh II; the great Kachwahas ruler shifted his capital to Jaipur in 1727, due to the growing population and need for better water resources.
Amber Fort gets a beautiful reflection in the Maotha Lake that served as a treasure crypt for the Kacchwaha dynasty. The deteriorating climatic conditions and low rainfall has dried the lake, but the fort is well maintained. The Fort can be reached either elevating from the base of the hill to the fort on elephant or just pushing upwards as you walk on the steep pathway. Tourist can explore this place on their own with an audio guide or appoint a guide in person, who shall also narrate you the little interesting facts and fables about the place.
The growing tourist interest in Amber fort has encouraged the authorities to start a food court within the fort. It has brands like Café Coffee Day that provide refreshments for quick bites.
