The City palace complex is a magnificent maestro of Raja Sawai Jai Singh built between 1729 and 1732 and further was extended by his successors. It is symbolic milestone in Jaipur. The palace has magnificent interiors and is divided into a sequence of courtyards. It is a perfect example of Mughal and Rajput architectural fusion. The main attractions of this Palace are the two huge silver pitchers called Gangajalis that are put on exhibition. The silver pitchers are also mentioned in the 'Guiness Book of World Records' as being the largest silver objects in the world.
The most significant architectural structure within this complex includes the Chandra Mahal which is still the residence of erstwhile ruling family, the Mubarak Mahal was built to entertain the guests but now it is converted into an exhibition gallery exhibiting the attire of the Kings. The Sarvatobhadra, Diwan Khana and Pritam Niwas are other significant buildings in the complex.
The city palace is the most popular site among the tourists because of its spectacular museum known as the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum. The spectacular art gallery is another fascinating feature of the entire complex. The various ancient handwritten Hindu scriptures and paintings are the legacy of this palace and are well preserved in the museums.
