Rajasthan is popular for flamboyant palaces that were incorporated within the defensive fortification of the forts or self-sufficient cities. The Mahals or the palaces were the private residence of the royal family with separate courtyard for public gatherings. The residence allotted to the nobles and the merchant families were called the ‘Havellis’, which were smaller than the Mahals.
The Palaces of Rajasthan beholds a unique characteristic with its meticulously designed interiors. The interiors were dramatically decorated with tiny mirrors, semi precious stones, and elegant alabasters relief work. The palaces were such designed that despite scorching heat outside the temperature remained much cooler inside the palace. There were Zenanas (private space) constructed for the women of the royal family.
Rajasthan has a list of many magnificent palaces, each of them different from the other with some interesting feature intact. Some magnificent Palaces of Rajasthan includes the City Palace and Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, Udai Vilas Palace, Jal Mahal, and Umaid Bhawan Palace. The major attractions for several tourists who travel Rajasthan are the Palace hotels in Rajasthan. Many palaces that were shedding down in ruins were converted into palace hotels by various private ventures to preserve the legacy. It also gives an opportunity to the tourists visiting Rajasthan to have an extravagant stay, and experience the elaborative lifestyle once enjoyed by the royal family.
